Deeds

Not Words

ACTA, short for ACTA NON VERBA. In Latin, Deeds Not Words. This creed reflects our goal to ensure a great experience through our wines by way of taking care with every step. Intention and purpose are paramount within all our decision making, and a focus on the passion of the people behind not only the wines, but also every component of the grape growing and winemaking process. We want to share with you the results of our efforts with no hyperbole. Just the deeds in doing a thing well…

The ACTA Estate

The ACTA Estate is the fruition of a lengthy, deliberate search. Ultimately, we were looking for a piece of land we could preserve for the future of our families that also had the characteristics required to establish world-class estate vineyard. We sought a location where climate, soil and water were all conducive to great vineyards and resulting wine, where we could do all of this organically and with the best interest of the community in mind. We found that in Alexander Valley just south of Jimtown on 16 acres with an existing winery and hospitality center that needed a little care and attention to restore its potential. In 2021 a two-year project to upgrade the facilities, re-establish the garden and the olive grove and rehabilitate the vineyards ensued. We have since completed all but the ongoing work in the vineyard which is truly a life-long pursuit. If you visit ACTA today, you will be welcomed at the farm and garden end of the property as you enter, and immediately see the block of 1939 Old Vine Zinfandel that we have painstakingly reinvigorated simply to preserve and offer that experience to guests. In the new tasting lounge, the vaulted ceiling highlights a vine from a now-removed 1925 vineyard block that has been turned into a one-of-a-kind hanging light fixture.

Today, ACTA is proud to offer a welcoming hospitality center with and indoor tasting lounge, private wine cellar, third floor viewing tower and an outdoor patio with 360-degree views of the Alexander Valley. All of this is surrounded by the organically managed estate that we enthusiastically offer as a host site for industry and community event, particularly those of the charitable variety.

The Wines

The wines of the ACTA portfolio are bound by sense of place, consistency in the quality, balance in the flavor profiles, and freshness across the palate. We work with a great deal of intention to select premium fruit sources and cooperages paired with nuanced winemaking to achieve this. We advocate for the blending of vineyard sites, barrel characters and in many cases varietals when a more compelling wine is the result.

ACTA currently produces Rosé from the Estate Vineyards in Alexander Valley, Sauvignon Blanc from the terraces of Story Creek on Westside Road (Sonoma County), Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from The Russian River Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon from Chalk Hill in Alexander Valley, as well as from two Cabernet wines Yountville and Atlas Peak in Napa Valley, and finally a signature red blend, DEEDS, a right bank Bordeaux inspired blend with all varietals coming from the Alexander Valley.

Coming with the maturation of the 2022 vintage will be the addition of an Estate Grown Old Vine Zinfandel which is the result of the vineyard rehabilitation efforts.

Production across the portfolio is just under 2000 cases/vintage with individual wines ranging from as little as 50 cases to 400.
